Two years without antiretroviral medication and medical care took a toll on the young boy, named Tung (an assumed name, for privacy reasons). He became easily fatigued, struggled to breathe, and endured constant stomach pain. When Tung finally returned to the doctor, his health had significantly deteriorated. Pneumonia and tuberculosis were imminent threats, but medication provided some relief.
Yet, Tung's health battles were far from over. Chronic stomach pain, abnormal kidney function, and a severe ear infection (otitis media) left him unable to hear. The situation became so dire that he was admitted to Mukdahan Hospital. Slowly, with treatment and care, his condition began to improve.
Steps forward
Throughout this ordeal, Siam-Care was by Tung's side. The team ensured he received consistent medical attention and referred him to an ear specialist. For six months, he used medicated ear drops, but his hearing issues persisted. Siam-Care guided him to clearly articulate his symptoms to the doctor, ultimately leading to a disability certification process. In November of this year (2024), his perseverance bore fruit—he was approved for a disabled person’s card. This milestone opened doors to vital support, including living allowances from the Department of Social Development and Human Security.
