At Siam-Care, we believe that every child and every family deserves the chance to build a better future. We offer support where needed, but also encourage families to actively work on their future themselves. Because together, we can achieve more. We see this, for example, with the family of Mali and her younger sister Noi, who make prawn crackers together to earn some extra money.
To protect the family's privacy, fictitious names have been used in this article.
In northeastern Thailand, in the province of Nakhon Phanom, Mali lives with her mother, grandmother, brother, sister, and little half-brother. The family lives in difficult circumstances. There is little money, income is uncertain, and the care of the family falls largely on the shoulders of the grandmother and the children. For, unfortunately, the mother is emotionally too unstable to contribute anything substantial. (text continues below the photo)

Yet, we also see something very beautiful in this family: the willingness to roll up their sleeves and get to work. For instance, Mali and her younger sister Noi make prawn crackers together. The photos show how diligently they are working. They collaborate, help each other, and do their best to contribute to the family. They may be small steps, but they demonstrate great motivation to move forward.
Not only support, but also encourage
At Siam-Care, we know that financial support is sometimes indispensable for vulnerable families. When there is not enough money at home for food, school supplies, or other basic necessities, outside help can make a big difference. Especially for children growing up in difficult circumstances. But our approach goes beyond just financial support. We also want to encourage families to discover what they can do themselves to improve their situation. Not because they have to solve everything alone, but because we believe in their capabilities and want to help them become stronger and more independent, step by step.
This means that we look not only at what a family needs, but also at the talents, commitment, and opportunities that are already there. Sometimes that starts with something simple, such as making a product together that can be sold. It requires time, perseverance, and the opportunity to build on what is already there.
Working together on independence
Naturally, children can never be held responsible for the problems of adults. They have a right to safety, education, and a carefree childhood. Therefore, Siam-Care remains committed to the well-being of the children in this family, and we are dedicated to ensuring that they can continue attending school and receive the support they need.
At the same time, we want to encourage the positive efforts of Mali and Noi. Their diligence and willingness to help deserve our appreciation. It shows that, despite the difficult circumstances, there are opportunities to look ahead and work towards a better future.
That is exactly what Siam-Care stands for: not just giving, but building change together. We provide support where needed, encourage initiative, and help vulnerable families become increasingly self-reliant.
For our goal is not for families to remain dependent on our help forever. On the contrary, we want them to be able to move forward independently as soon as circumstances permit. Every step in that direction counts.
