Woodha is 9 years old and lives with his grandfather Thaworn and grandmother Maneechan in Nakhon Phanom, in the impoverished northeast of Thailand. The family lives by making and selling simple baskets and has very little income. Therefore, amenities such as a sturdy and safe house are difficult for them to afford.
Their simple home had been in poor condition for quite some time: the roof leaked and the house had hardly any interior walls. Due to the heavy rain, part of the house has since collapsed. The kitchen has been lost, and the side walls and floor have also deteriorated so badly in some places that it is no longer safe for Grandma and Woodha.
Part of the restoration has already been arranged by the local government, in cooperation with Siam-Care. However, the house is not yet safe, and the project is not finished. We visited the family ourselves and saw how urgently the remaining work is needed.
With €1,000, we can purchase the necessary materials, including posts, wall plates, wood, aluminium, and mounting hardware. With this, we can further restore the house and create a safe place where Woodha, his grandpa and grandma can live dry and safe again, and where they can prepare their food.
